Work begins on Nlcomp’s first production plant

Nlcomp (Northern Light Composites), a start-up company active in the production of sustainable and recyclable composite materials, which recently presented its recyclable sailing boat project, has announced that it has begun work on the construction of rFactory, the company’s first industrial plant. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in the industrial area of Monfalcone, a short distance from the Lisert navigable canal.

The new production site, built entirely with sustainable materials, including wood and proprietary composites developed by Nlcomp itself, represents a strategic step in the growth of the start-up, which began in the nautical sector and is now ready to expand into the wind energy and innovative high-performance materials sectors.

RFactory will cover an area of approximately 500 square metres and will house a production line for sustainable composite products up to 20 metres in length, offices and design spaces, and a meeting room for working with industrial partners and stakeholders.

The first product to be manufactured at the plant will be Offshore 34, a racing sailboat designed by Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D’Angeli, made with sustainable resins by nlcomp and marketed under the Northern Light brand.

The start of work also sends a strong message to the Italian innovation ecosystem: a deep-tech start-up investing in local manufacturing, real sustainability and a circular supply chain, in a context where industrialisation is often the most critical phase to finance and structure.

“We are truly excited,” said Fabio Bignolini, CEO of Nlcomp, in a statement. “The groundbreaking ceremony is a moment that I would describe as historic for our company: we will finally have the opportunity to produce entirely in-house and thus complete the transition from start-up to established company. The plot purchased from the Monfalcone Industrial Consortium is of a size and location that already allow us to think, together with our partners and associates, in particular with the Samer Group, about future development in sectors related to boating and wind power.”

“The groundbreaking ceremony,” says Enrico Samer, president of Samer & Co. Shipping, a company participating in Nlcomp, “is always a moment of great significance for an entrepreneur: it represents both a point of arrival and a point of departure in the realisation of an industrial project. Nlcomp now has all the tools it needs to excel and prove its worth on the international market.”

Nlcomp raised approximately €1.2 million from various investors and participated in the Zero acceleration programme run by CDP Venture Capital and Zest.
